November is here … finally?

That is a typical november weather here in finland. Grey and rainy. The last years autumn was like this, for weeks. No sun at all.

After a while it is really depressing, the sun going down early, long dark and grey weather.

But as you can can see from the previous posts, this autumn was really beautiful so far.

The last days were really grey and I am happy about it. I enjoyed the weather really! But let’s see if this stays long, I think I am going to miss the sun…

A walk in the dark

Winter has come. Although the snow is falling already, the first weeks of winter were very dark. The sun rises at 9 am and sets down at 3 pm. So there is not much time left for sunshine. And when it shines, is really low, as you can see in this picture from last year.

Here a few shots from our walk few weeks ago, taken in november 2013 in mid-Finland.

I am so happy that we left this really dark period behind, alhamdulillah, the snow is just so white 😀 (want to see some snow pictures? pls feel free to look around in the winter category, unfortunatedly at the moment I lack of free time to make longer photographing trips, so it could take a while before I have new pictures.)

A birch preparing for winter

It is just amazing if you think about, how our world is filled with diversity. Be it diversity among us people, or amongst the animals, the trees also are so different, even in their ways to lose their leaves in autumn.

Some trees have lost almost every leave by now, and others are still green like in the summer.

Some trees turn slowly, all leaves at once, and others, like the birches, seems to lose their color in steps. Some of the leaves turn yellow, and others are still green, which gives the birch a funny colored look.

A squirrel shadow

Yesterday at the childrens playground I was accompanied by a very curious young squirrel, who was very funny. He (or she) even jumped at the table while I was sitting there, but he was so quick, hard to take pictures. I managed to get some, and today I was playing with my freshly installed Gimp 2.8, really a good program mashaAllah!

Impressions of spring…

Greetings and peace!

First of all, I am sorry for such a late update. Have been busy revamping my community site.

But, also been busy taking new pictures. So here are they, a collection from spring impressions from the last weeks. Summer is not far away anymore!

sea

One sure sign for spring is – the lake has melted completely and you can see the sparkles of sun glittering at the water.. Such a beautiful sight I have truly missed!

water

Melting snow causes little streams everywhere…

river

And great rivers…

The sun come forth, shine and brighten the day!

And the leaves beginn to grow

And flowers! Wonderful yellow, lilac and white flowers. I love flowers! Never get enough of them!

I cannot believe my chrysantemum is still alive! It likes living on the balcony, I think. I hope it lasts long, since the other plants do not very well.

And some strange things I do not have a name for 😀

A lot of fallen leaves from last autumn come forth

And you are able to walk in the woods again!

And these things from the birch tree, which are not so pleasant for those with hay fever…

Blow, blow, thou winter wind

Blow, blow, thou winter wind.
Thou art not so unkind
As man’s ingratitude;
Thy tooth is not so keen,
Because thou art not seen,
Although thy breath be rude.
Heigh-ho! sing, heigh-ho! unto the green holly:
Most friendship is feigning, most loving mere folly:
Then, heigh-ho, the holly!
This life is most jolly.

Freeze, freeze, thou bitter sky,
That dost not bite so nigh
As benefits forgot:
Though thou the waters warp,
Thy sting is not so sharp
As friend remember’d not.
Heigh-ho! sing, heigh-ho! unto the green holly:
Most friendship is feigning, most loving mere folly:
Then, heigh-ho, the holly!
This life is most jolly.

dark tree

This has been a tough winter, but, alhamdulillah, I think the worst is over now. Finally getting better, I hope so…

There is always light after the dark, one should never forget this…

I think I am going to try to read shakespeare someday… InchaAllah…
